The arts are among our best instructors. They help us understand and feel understood. Through stories, written, spoken, sung, danced and illustrated, they help us connect, beyond race, culture, gender and economic circumstances, to our human condition. Reminding us that we are more similar than we are different.

In Malaysia, our diversity is a blessing and lesson in abundance. Countless artists have given voice to the heart and psyche of our nation using both traditional and modern art forms. They are an archive of the soul of a nation, offering a plurality of views of the Malaysian experience at different points in our collective history.

Negaraku 1957-2007 Celebrating Malaysian Artistic Expression presents some of these incredible voices. Resources only permit 25 cards in this issue. However, we acknowledge the contributions of the many who have created and continue to influence our art forms and artists.

The intention of this project is two fold; to look back and honour the home grown artists who have made a seminal contribution to Malaysian arts, and looking forward, to raise funds to help nurture and develop new generations of artistic talent.

To this end, Five Arts Centre, one of the country’s longest running theatre companies and a valuable training ground for generations of young artists, was selected as the beneficiary. Profits raised from the sale of these greeting cards will be used to fund Five Arts Centre’s youth and community projects.

This greeting cards project is made possible by TEC Asia, the world's largest CEO membership organisation, Edward Soo, Lew & Co and the Sunway Group.
